Most people really like Buff Orpingtons. My Buffs never failed to go broody every summer too, another plus. The most talkative hen I have is a speckled Sussex, who follows me everywhere, commenting on everything I do and say! Our buffs (...I agree with your assessment totally. Our buffs (fluffy butts) are now 7 months old and already laying large eggs, almost one a day. I do prefer a bird with dark eyes, but that's just me. Loose feathered chickens do better in cold weather, too, I think. This is our first experience with the Buffs and are happily surprised with them. Now we need a Buff rooster for them. Funny how we were always overrun with roosters but now we have none. Quiet, friendly chickens that lay large eggs....what's not to like?Tewshoozhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02564577459982968771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802560046259042468.post-42536321861662834402015-12-26T11:22:35.306-05:002015-12-26T11:22:35.306-05:00Fiona, you will really enjoy your Buffs on the tab...Fiona, you will really enjoy your Buffs on the table as well. They dress out a nice carcass and get to be a good size by butchering age. All of our chicks this year are half Buff, from our rooster. He is large, friendly to people, calls his hens to eat when we bring them scraps or put out grain, and is protective of them as well, sending out warning calls when he feels a threat is near. Buff Orpingtons are excellent chickens and I would highly recommend them. Good choice!

Fern
Frank and Fernhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15570058990887565563noreply@blogger.com
